Virtual Education at Altamira: A Positive Experience for Families

At a time when humanity faces a situation of uncertainty and isolation in our homes is seen as the best alternative to protect us from the contagion of COVID19, the academic choice of remote or virtual classes for our children and young people, is a new challenge to which we know both teachers, students, and parents, that we must be resilient.

But beyond the good attitude and all that this situation demands of us, I consider very positive that my daughter Juliana, not only have the commitment to attend the virtual classes designed by the Altamira College from Monday to Friday, to the extent that her educational process is not interrupted, but in turn these classes have become a useful resource, if you want it is a good excuse to remeet with her colleagues and teachers in an environment of love and trust that ineludibly promotes especially in young people, such as solidarity, discipline, creativity and joy.

To see my daughter wake up every morning to "attend" her school, to listen through her room door to the laughter (product of the interaction that is generated in the virtual classroom between the boys, which, so wonderful, maintain codes of complicity that the elders would cause us envy), to know that she will then have more to do thanks to the tasks, is something that I thank every day.

It is amazing how at these crucial times technology helps to strengthen bonds of affection, to put knowledge into motion, and to take advantage of it in an intelligent way, a few hours that, in the absence of training activities for our children, would be empty: of unproductive leisure and boredom.

I therefore encourage parents to take on this new experience as something that will definitely make our children and young people more structured, strong, disciplined, organized, and focused on their goals. That sometimes it will play "fight" against the laziness, yes; against the complaint, too; that it will have to be more present and follow up on tasks and assessments... that is a fact. But learning is for everyone.

I recommend then organizing time at home, setting commitments and forms of verification, and of course setting an example. If children witness that their parents have established routines for telework, and the organization of the house, they will internalize and imitate these behaviors. Nor should we forget the fun, the family games, and all those activities linked to our passions, which generate lasting well-being.

For my part, I only have to thank the Altamira College and its staff of teachers for all the dedication and creativity they have put in the service of education, and for the benefit of our children. Teachers are anonymous heroes essential to society.
