COUNSELING

MISSION

The Altamira International School counselors provide a comprehensive guidance program that assists every member of the community (students, parents, teachers among other stakeholders) in acquiring essential human abilities to succeed in life.

We believe that everyone is able to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish positive relationships and make responsible decisions.

VISION
Our vision is to provide a safe and trusting environment where the entire community addresses their personal and academic needs. Our school members will reach their full potential by developing themselves into a respectful, honest, kind and supportive way.

AIS CORE BELIEFS ALIGN WITH COUNSELING

WE BELIEVE OUR A.I.S COMMUNITY EXCELS WHEN…

– Everyone is capable of learning.
– Everyone learns in different ways and learning programs need to accommodate this.
– The mental, emotional, physical well-being of students and staff is a priority.
– Students demonstrate success in a variety of ways and learn resilience and confidence through learning in an environment that provides a balance of support and challenge.

The Altamira Optimal Match Center (OMC)

offers students from Nido, PK-12 grade a well-rounded program to meet students’ social, emotional and academic needs. It’s based on an SEL curriculum where Individuals develop competencies such as: self awareness, self control, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making.

Also, provide strategies to help students with different learning styles to develop their strengths, satisfy their needs and reach their
full potential.

OMC students receive adjustments and accommodations needed within the classroom to make their learning significant. The main goal is to reduce behavioral and academic difficulties by maximizing the student achievement. The center integrates both evaluation and intervention within a prevention system.

Early Childhood Intervention

This service is offered at Nido and Pre-School sections. It’s aimed at providing additional instruction and practice to those students who require it to reach their goals. It seeks to prevent future academic difficulties and enhance learning opportunities. There’s a strong foundation in the learning process of English and Mathematics. It is designed to work with intervention in-and-out of class depending on the needs of each student.

RTI (RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION)
– Support varying degrees of readiness in relation to content.
– Teachers employ “Tiered Activities” so that all students can acquire the essential understanding, knowledge and skills, but at different levels of complexity.

TIER 1: The Whole Class
TIER 2: Small Group Intervention
TIER 3: Intensive Intervention
