Lorena Bolivar, a student who always stood out for her leadership in the different institutional scenarios, tells us how her active participation, academic formation and passion for the study helped to fulfill and build her life purpose by working for the city of Barranquilla. Today Lorraine acts as, Politologist, Bilingualism Leader, cross-cutting projects and strategic alliances of the District Secretariat of Education.
Do you consider that the learning given by the Altamira College has contributed to who you are today?
The education I received at the College has been decisive in many aspects of my life, inculcated me one of my passions and is always being an apprentice, I consider Lifelong Learner I love to study, know, inquire, have a critical thought, social sense, have a tourist vision and deepen on various topics. This has allowed me to understand my role in the co-creation and construction of citizenship.
I saw the school as a place not only to receive knowledge, but also tools for life. I was a member of STUCO for a long time and an active participant of AISMUN. These events led me to understand the correlation and interdependence that exists between all and how we are interconnected. My purpose of life and my dream is 100% connected to my city and to my country, so I think, from a very early age, the school, Mrs. Pristy and all the teachers inculcated me and supported me to build it and analyse how I behave and how I determine my role in society to act and impact positively.
Now that he led the city's bilingualism project, I understand the importance of the International Accreditation of the Altamira College, especially because he always guaranteed the quality in education that I was receiving, relevant, contextualized, local, avant-garde for the time being. Thanks to that I perform the way I do in my work.
In what aspects do you consider that the education we provide as an institution has allowed you to build your purpose of life?
The learning I had at school has allowed me to achieve many things that I have in my life because I acquired theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to promote things that are now easy to understand as sustainable development, peace, dynamics of cooperation etc.
In fact, I decided to do my specialization, because from school I had very clear my goal of promoting gender equality and focusing on human rights by focusing on global citizenship and cultural diversity to have a much wider view of the world and that to some extent makes my work much easier.
For me all part of our educators I remember with great affection. They were a differentiating factor in my education, they added an impressive value that has allowed me to be different from others in any organization and this is key to achieving success, as a person, as a professional, as a student, as a citizen of Barranquilla and the world. I have a constant desire to build a more just society, to work on building consensus, to understand that my role should not be passive and to innovate constantly.
Thank you Altamira for allowing me to be a free, autonomous and critical student who clearly observes to impact and transform the environment into unequal circumstances.
